Elizabeth - the Queen of England

In January 20th, 1936 King George V died, and then David ( who became Edward VII) held that post. At that time David was in contact with a divorced American beauty Wallace Sympson. In spite of all his attempts to convince the British Parliament to allow him to marry her, he decided to abdicate. For Elizabeth, David's decision to do so, became one more blow. Rejected and offended, she suddenly understood that the man, who had humiliated her, was even ready to abdicate from the throne because of his love to a woman. Elizabeth felt herself deadly wounded. And all of a sudden she became hard and irreconcilable opponent of King David and Wallace Sympson.

A short reign of Edward VII ended in December 11th, 1936 abdicating from the throne. Listening to his last speech as a King over the radio both women were crying. But Elizabeth was weeping from fury.

David had done his choice. His brother Berty, apprehensive and stammered Berty, never loved by Elizabeth, became King of England George VI. Elizabeth, being sure that she would be a Queen of England, exclaimed: "Oh, that means we should start from the beginning". New habits, new relations, new celebrations. She was ready for that.

On the 12th of May 1937 Canterbury archbishop laid a crown on Elizabeth's head, a sceptre - a symbol of power - into her hands, in the legendary Westminster Abbey. So a little girl from a Scottish castle at the age of 36 became one of the most powerful sovereign in the world. A lot of British people sympathized her at that time, touched by her sentimental story of love.
