The Ruling of Queen Elizabeth

Elizabeth paid much attention to her two daughters. In 1938 her first-born child, Elizabeth, now Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of thirteen met with her distant relative Prince Philip Greek and Dutch, with whom she kept up a correspondence during the war. "This is a brilliant and handsome young man. He will make you happy", - her mother told her. Perhaps Philip reminded her David, her girl's dream.

Young Elizabeth and Prince Philip got married in Westminster 1947, 20th of November.
The Queen devoted much time to the poor and her people. She was fond of travelling and headed a great number of institutions, hospitals and charity funds. Elizabeth showed great interest to the work of the charity funds. By the end of 1939 the Queen headed all subsidiary women's services. She was President of the British Red Cross and the head of medical departments of first-aid of St John, besides she was also a Member or Honoured Colonnel of different regiments. During King's absense Elizabeth was one of the five state advisors, who replacing him, fulfilled all his duties. In 1944 she was awarded the title Master of one of the most significant Association of English lawyers. A very amusing story was told among the people on this occasion. It happened in 1944. London was bombed by the fascist U-2 every day at that period of time. The Queen had to appear before the lawyers and thanked them for doing her the honour. Sirens of air-raid were heard, and all represented Englishmen at the forum were quite sure that the Queen would hurry up to the reliable Shelter of Buckingham Palace (while it was bombing), with the royal punctuality, demonstrating a charming smile. On the 14 of August 1950, the day of the Queen's 50th birthday, the London "Times" sang the praises of the Queen: "She has become a steady and essential support to our King". Supporting him when he is healthy and sick, she undertook a part of the royal burden. Very few people in London knew, that George VI was ill with cancer of lungs and he had no chance to survive. The King was operated in summer 1951, and it seemed that the King would happily live.

But on the 6th of February 1952 after a pleasant day, spending in Sandrangham in the company of the Queen and Princess Margaret, the King died in his sleep. The Queen was in despair. After so many years of marriage she at last fell in love with that merited man. After her husband's death she began harder than ever to devote herself to social duties. In May 1952 Elizabeth concentrated all her power to change radically her life - to begin everything from the beginning, like many years ago, when she suddenly became a Queen. She purchased a castle in the north of "her" Scotland and lived there in Claren House - a residence of her daughter Margaret and hers.

Elizabeth was a super grandmother of her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. She loved all people, but especially Lady Diana, or "Lady D", who had to be the Queen and who reminded so much her youth.

The daughter of the Scottish Duke from noble, but not rich familly, Elizabeth became the Queen of Great Britain, its soul and symbol of one of the most respectful in the modern world monarchy.
